Creative Rekindling Retreat at Pink Velvet Studio

April 27 & 28

or

July 6&7

When you were a child, nothing could stop those crayons from moving across the blank sheet of paper. There was no fear of failure, embarrassment, just freedom that flowed naturally. And then life happened. You put down the crayons, picked up a briefcase, a textbook, or maybe a child of your own. Seasons

This workshop is perfect for anyone wanting to learn a new creative medium, or expand on their abstract painting skills. You will be working with professional artist Margo Harmon as you paint your way through a variety of techniques in abstract painting working on a large, professional grade 30×30 inch gallery wrapped canvas. This weekend workshop is designed as a creative retreat, where we will spend the days creating, enjoying good food, and connecting with like minded people who wish to rekindle their creative spark. We all have art inside us!

During this explorative weekend, you’ll learn techniques in texture, pattern, color, composition, brush strokes, mark making, and more. Each exercise is built to help you find your own unique voice and painting style. No two student works will be alike, and you’ll have the guidance and encouragement you need to truly let go and allow your creative side to be expressed. You will be working with professional grade paints and brushes, and in the end you will walk away with a large canvas that you have painted. We will also have a collaborative piece that we work on during this weekend retreat. Each student will contribute their own unique markings and brushstrokes to a finished canvas that will be displayed in the studio, and eventually donated!

About the instructor:

Margo Harmon is an abstract painter, and owner of Pink Velvet Studio. She is happiest when she is helping others learn new outlets to express their inner maker. She has been creating things since childhood, and painting with acrylics for 10 years. She also has a part time residence in Belize, where she is inspired by the warmth of the sun and the sea. Working primarily on canvas, her work in abstract landscapes, florals, and forms is intended to inspire access to a sense of whimsy, joy, and peace that resides in us all.

Creative Rekindling Weekend Retreat Schedule:

Throughout the course you will be given paper and mini canvases to practice and work out ideas on. These smaller, more expressive pieces will guide you in discovering your own unique style that will contribute to the large canvas. Think of the smaller pieces as your inner child, coloring on that blank sheet of paper. And the larger canvas is your adult self bringing the wisdom, knowledge, and experience to create a refined piece of art.
